At ELCC we encourage every regular attender and member to participate in what we call “The Big 3.” The Big 3 are spiritual growth essentials that we encourage every believer to prioritize because they help us live out our faith. They help us stay connected to Christ so we can experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in our life. The Big 3 essentials are: Attend on the weekend, participate in a group, and serve others.
1. Attend on the Weekend
Why should you attend church on the weekend? Because it helps you keep Christ at the center of your life. It helps you to intentionally focus on growing in our faith and connecting with others through shared worship. There is something about coming together to worship, pray, and learn with other believers. The early church was committed to coming together to worship.“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 NLT. It’s not about just showing up to check the box, it’s about keeping the main thing the main thing.
2. Participate in a Group
Our goal is to see everyone who attends ELCC actively involved in a group. Pick one that fits your needs with the stage of life you are in.
Small groups are the primary place where people experience spiritual growth and transformation. A small group is a group of people who meet together on a regular basis to share life and grow in their faith together. Small groups may be formed around a life stage, topic, activity, or a common interest. “They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity.” Acts 2:46
The early church prioritized meeting in small groups and so do we. A small group is the place to get connected to each other face to face instead of face forward. You get to learn together, ask questions, pray for one another, minister to one another, and experience life together.
3. Serve Others
We have a lot of different unique roles at ELCC and it’s easy to get involved with a ministry that will fill you up and challenge you. You might want to serve others by helping usher or lead a small group or make food or clean someone’s house. You can teach children or minister to babies. God doesn’t save anyone to sit them on the bench; he saves you because he wants you and needs you to be a part of His team. All of us have different roles, but what matters is that you are willing to be involved. “Now someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.’ But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.’” James 2:18
We can help you find a ministry that fits your spiritual gifts, heart, ability, passions, and experiences. All you need to do is contact us HERE.
We encourage you to prioritize attending every weekend, participating in a group, and serving others. These three essentials will help you to take the next step in your faith and help you grow closer to Christ.
